Crocus-like plants...help

Tiverton, RI

Every spring my yard fills with big clumps of, what look a lot like, Crocuses. Sort of dense, thick green shoots of 'grass' that stand about 3-6" tall. But that's it. There are never any blooms. The clumps seem to get bigger each year and there seem to be more of them and if you dig them up, there are little white bulbs clustered together. This spring, I've had the idea to dig up a bunch and hold them over the season and put them into a pot for next year and see if they bloom, but otherwise, around this time, I end up just cutting them down with my mower because they turn yellow and start to die back mid-April. Any help would be appreciated. This is my first post, but now that I've discovered this resource, I'm sure I'll have plenty more.

I wonder if they are just too crowded to bloom. Digging some up and moving them individually to another spot may encourage blooms next year and solve the mystery.

In the meantime, they could be Galanthus (snowdrops) or Chionodoxa (glory of the snow). Do you think these bulbs were planted by some previous owner or are they maybe natives?

Thanks! I don't know the origin of the bulbs. There are snowdrops and crocus in the front garden, presumably from the previous owners. I purchased the property from a family that had owned it for almost half a century and I'm constantly finding things here and there that pop up. We also have some very active squirrels in the yard that are known to scatter tulip and daffodil bulbs throughout the garden. The garden was in such a state when I bought it that things that may have been deliberately planted were hidden for years. Once I started to clear the brush and weeds, things started popping up like mad. I'm going to put these bulbs in a pot and see what happens next year. In the meantime, I may just pull a bunch up and spread them out a bit. See if that helps.
