Hello, I recently bought a house and there is a lilac bush in the front yard. It's young, only about four feet tall and this is the first bloom I've seen. It bloomed light purple blossoms with tiny flowers. But then, it started blooming dark purple blossoms with larger flowers.
After inspection, I found that a previous owner must have planted two different varieties in the same spot. The stems are intertwined a little.
Should I be concerned about crowding? Should I try to separate the plants in the dormant season? I would hate to see one of the plants die.
Thanks,
Jessi
Two lilac bushes in same spot
It might have been a grafted plant and the light purple bush is the rootstock. Lilacs grow in a jumble naturally. I would just enjoy my multi-colored bush.

Ok. Thanks for your help. 😊
