Recent weekend visit to Houston. I admit I may have slighted Houston's horticultural offerings, as there were many other conflicting priorities. But as usual I sought out the local botanical garden, but unfortunately was still under construction. So I settled on an urban arboretum which was a pleasant diversion in the midst of town, a backdrop of horn-honking notwithstanding. The primary horticultural attraction was when I practically fell into an exuberantly flowering vine. A close encounter.
Flowering vine
"Measles make you bumpy and mumps'll make you lumpy
And chicken pox'll make you jump and twitch
A common cold'll cool you but whooping cough'll fool you
But poison ivy's gonna make you itch
You're gonna need an ocean
Of calamine lotion
You'll be scratching like a hound
The minute you start to mess around..."
Eeek. Was it labeled? Or maybe they plant it to keep people on the paths?
Labels were in short supply as I recall. Fortunately my survivalist instincts kicked in to save the day.
Houston, we have a problem!
