There is a huge ground bee / wasp nest in my neighbor's yard. It stretches over 20ft in one direction, at least half that in the other. Today it is about 60 degrees out and dry, and they are fairly active.
Can anybody identify these from the photos? May main concern is that they sting - my son is allergic to bee and wasp stings. I can try to get better pictures if there's any uncertainty.

Ground bees / wasps
Your images are not clear enough for a definitive i.d. - there are many species of ground-nesting bees in several families known from North Carolina, but none are known to be aggressive towards humans. You might find the pub at https://caldwell.ces.ncsu.edu/2014/06/ground-digging-bees/ useful.
Thanks. I went out and took more photos, but before I could post them, I discovered they were andrenid bees. They can sting, but as you say they are not aggressive. We will leave them be.
