Is Dark Green Italian Parsley the same as Italian Parsley?

Las Vegas, NV

I'm seeing a few seed companies advertising "Dark Green Italian Parsley".

Is this the same as just plain Italian Parsley?

Thank you,
John

Probably. Companies like to hype their product.

That's for sure. Just wondering if I should be growing a different variety. Thanks for responding.

There are two leaf shapes. Italian parsley has a flat leaf. The other one is stiffer and has a ruffled "fancy" leaf - the kind you get on your plate and don't eat.

Thank you. I guess there's only 1 kind of Italian Parsley.

I appreciate your time.

Both parsleys originate from the same general region. Sardinia is close enough to Italy. Flat leaf is more cold hardy. There is a resurgence in the use of curly leaf and not just for garnish! Noted English chef, Fergus Henderson, did an interesting article in defense of curly awhile back. If I recall, he likened it to having a hair ball unless pureed and shared several recipes. He is Jamie Oliver's go to expert on farm or forage to table and has a noted culinary hotel. Though I dissed curly for years I made some nice sauces and parsley pestos last summer to test his thinking. Great pureed but inedible chopped.

I should have added that "Italian" generally refers to flat leaf, but that's no guarantee. Dark green must mean they pour xtra nitrogen fert on it. :)

I'd assume the "dark green" Italian parsley is exactly what it says - a darker green form of flat-leafed (Italian) parsley.
Variations like this are extremely common in the plant world.
