Looking for answer on how to help this variegated rubber tree plant. Edges of leaves are turning brown and crunchy.
Help! Brown edges on rubber plant
I would like to know about this plant, too!
I had this happen to some degree to my variegated rubber tree as well. I'm certainly no expert, but my GUESS is it has something to do with either low humidity or over/under watering.
Me too!
Last year I mixed up some systemic fungicide for Roses and poured it on the potting soil (It's not the kind to spray on leaves, and is a brown gooky mess). This seems to have helped, but I just looked and one of the new leaves since then has a brown spot. So I am NOT sure this is a fungus, but I suspect it is.
Mine is in a "garden Window" facing south, on the east side of window so it gets hot there and very sunny afternoons in summer. I am in Seattle so my sun is much less strong than most of the U.S. I don't water it much, and the humidity is very low there most of the year.
How about your plants?
We have a difficult time keeping the humidity up in our home during the winter and the poor houseplants suffer for it. On really cold days it's a struggle to get it anywhere near 40%. Our variegated rubber tree is between two south facing windows, and does get some direct sun in the mornings. I'd read somewhere that rubber trees like for the top of their soil to dry in between waterings, but I'm sure I don't let that happen often enough.
Mine gets dry- I typically water just once a week, and often less in winter. My humidity is not as low as yours, except a few times in winter when it gets down in the 20s (I know!). Only then am I "shocking" my cats when they come to be petted. However I bet yours is much higher in summer, here it is lovely-warm and dry in summer, for months. However the room my rubber plant is in has no real ventilation, and with the south window it stays quite hot in there in summer.
Lol poor cats! My husband and I electrocute each other with static electricity on a regular basis during the cold months haha. As you said, our humidity does go up in the warmer months, praise God! It has been much better the last couple of weeks. I'm sure the plants are enjoying it, and we are too.
