I live in Jasper, TX zone 8. I have this guy living in my garden and would like to find out if he is safe or poisonous. He is not bright orange but like a red orange, definitely not rusty. Any ideas? Thanks.
FROG
Looks like a common toad. Don't eat it (just kidding). The old wives' tale was "Don't handle them as they cause warts". I doubt that claim but they can urinate on you which isn't too cool. I've seen dogs foam at the mouth after trying to pick one up by mouth so I would try to keep the two apart.
For the most part, toads are typically good to have in your garden - eating insects and occasional slugs.

I was taking too long to reply, trying to find an ID, but I got as far as some type of toad.
It is completely safe to humans unless you pick it up behind the eyes. They have glands that secrete a poison when any would-be predator tried to pick them up.
Thanks to both of you for your help and replies. It helped release my anxiety. I had never seen a toad this color but apparently it is a normal ole American Toad! We have been in the country for 10 months now and my legs have permanent scars from many unfortunate encounter with things I was not aware of. So didn't want to end up in the hospital because of a frog haha. Have a great day!
