Hi! I have little pittisporums which grew from seed in the ground. I pulled them up and potted them. They are doing well and are now about a foot high, but none of them developed multiple trunks, only single trunks. How do I get them to develop multiple trunks, as you see in the nursery? Thank you!
How to Create Multiple Trunks on Pittisporum Tobira?
You can pinch back seedlings to make them branch out, once they each have three or four sets of true leaves in addition to the seedling leaves (the lowest pair). To pinch, remove the tip of each plant, including the top one or two sets of leaves. You either can use pruning shears or actually pinch those tips off with your fingers.
Thank you, I did that but although it branches, the branches don't come from the ground but rather, they come higher up on the trunk. I want them to come from the roots like they do in the nursery when I buy a pittisporum. Hope that makes sense.
