Newbie To Dave's and Gardening

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

Hello Everyone!
I recently purchased a home on 3+ acres in Southeastern Virginia (Surry County) and can finally pursue my interest in gardening. My first plan is to plant a 5'x7' garden of easy care purple flowers. I don't want it to be a flop because I want it to be a remembrance of my fiance's recently deceased mother whose favorite color was purple. I can use all advice everyone has to offer. I don't have any seeds to trade at this time, but should anyone have seeds for sase I'd greatly appreciate that too. Thanks in advance for everything.
