Hey everyone, recently on a picnic i discovered an incredibly strange insect that i had never ever seen before in my life. It was discovered in the state of Victoria, in Australia at a lake reserve in the inner suburb of Reservoir (google maps link is https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Edwardes+Park/@-37.713589,144.9937495,16.25z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x6ad6451241d6ca41:0xf0456760531e840?hl=en if that helps at all also)
We were down very close to the edge of the lake when we saw this little fella pop up out of the sand. Unfortunately the photo does not show the size of the insect all the well but from memory it was about 4 - 5 cm's long. It also looked like it was 3 bugs in one, with the body of a cricket, the middle section (thorax i believe it is, but please correct me if i am wrong) and the head of small clawed sea creature. Sorry for my vague description but that's the best as i could do as i have never seen anything like this in my life before. hopefully the photos and description are enough that someone may be able to help with the ID of this strange little fella.
