This caterpillar (or maybe it's not a caterpillar) stumbled into our living room. It's about 12 cm long and 2 cm thick. As you can maybe see in the photo, its skin was sort of leathery but not really shiny. I have never seen anything even remotely like it. Any idea what it might be?

It's a sphinx moth caterpillar, most likely Daphnis nerii -
