How do I save my Wisteria seeds?

Lorain, OH(Zone 5b)

My Wisteria is loaded with seed pods, they are velvety and olive green, I was wondering when I collect the seeds/pods, We have been getting frost for about 6 weeks now, it is starting to freeze at night and it is supposed to snow within the next 2 days. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Michele,
Some of mine are already falling on the ground...I'm not sure if the cold will kill yours for the pods are thick and maybe protected until they dry...

The pod should turn brown when they are ready to pick!

Hope this helps!

Thank you, I'm going to pluck the pods anyway because it seems like eveyone of them that hits the ground takes root. Or maybe I should just trade the seedlings in the spring.

this weekend in the yard i heard the familiar "pop and zing" of the pods bursting.
its a neat sound, but it always reminds of whats in store for me in the spring.

I started some wisteria seeds that I bought online last summer ... the plants are going great guns and very happy indoors under lights.

Meanwhile, I met a professional botonist who shook his head at me ... as a teen, he read about Wisteria taking forever to bloom if started from seed, but did it anyway. He lives in the house he grew up in and just pulled 25- and 28-year-old plants out. He never got them to bloom.

Cuttings, he said, are the way to go.

*sigh*
