Hi, just found this spider in my bedroom and I'm petrified, I'm gotten rid of it now but I'm scared there may be more, also, I've never seen a spide win markings like these, should anything be done?
What type of spider is this?
This is a cobweb/comb-footed spider (family Theridiidae); it looks like a Steatoda sp. Some species in this genus are known as 'false widow' spiders, and have received quite a bit of sensational (albeit inaccurate) press coverage. Their bite can be quite painful (personal experience), but usually of no more consequence than a bee sting - http://www.uksafari.com/steatodagrossa.htm
