Fraser Fir?

East Bridgewater, MA

Neighbor's tree IDed a few years ago as a Fraser Fir. Now it finally has some cones so I want to know for certain if possible.

Also, what are the weird mushroom shaped shoots in pic #4 by the cones?

Thanx!

Yep, looks like it.

Those are disintegrated cones, scales fallen off except for the small ones at the tip of the cone axis :-)

Cool! I really like this species for some reason.

Thank you Resin.

This is probably the easiest fir to grow in this part of the world. It's surprisingly drought tolerant and seems to thrive on neglect. We've got several growing here ranging from small seedlings to 20' trees. They carry on year after year and look great. I'm a believer.

Acres and acres and acres growing in our NC mountains - Christmas trees.

How this city gal from NY misses balsam trees. The Fraser has a nice scent if you squash its tips and occasionally a scent will waft on its own...but the balsam gives and keeps on giving.

It's an Isabella Faith ...a very strange bloom

And I have an Emmaline Rose and a Sophia Faith -- also very unique blooms

Cute as a kitten. Interesting -- siblings that share a middle name. If I could do it over, I'd have pushed for botanical middle names...

Faith was the maiden name of Sophia and Isabella's paternal grandmother.

Rose-- Emmaline's middle name -- was the name of her 's mothers beloved childhood hound dog. 😊 What can I say -- you can see we all are MISSING" ROSIE"

Neef - the fraser is a great tree in the landscape. And, they seem togrow cery fast.
