One of my Live Oaks is split and now touching the ground. Should ground contact be ended or is it ok to leave it alone?
Live Oak split and on ground
In California, the Live Oaks split and lie on the ground all the time. Or branches are heavy enough that they just crack and end up on the ground. If the tree is still nourishing the branch, the split or crack will heal itself and the tree becomes more interesting. But... Its very dry in Live Oak Country, California. If your part of Alabama is damp, the limb could rot but I don't think that would affect the overall health of the tree.
Daisy
Thank you for the info. I was thinking that they wouldn't last very long here if they couldn't servive something like this. Very prominent tree here on the southern coast line. Humidity is also rarely below 70 % here. I was wondering if there was something I could do to that would encourage it to root where it contacts the ground. Might feed itself a little better.
No, it won't root. Sorry!
