Writing spider 'pet' moved into cage before frost not eating

Clayton, NC

Please help. Last night ee built a large cage for a writing spider that lived on our back porch all for months. It laid 3 eggs sacs. It is supposed to frost tonight. We brought the cage in last night and I moved the spider into it by wrapping the Web with her on it onto a stick and putting it into the cage. She didn't build a web last night but this morning we found her in a tiny tangled web she made up in one corber. Somewhat similar to the Web built around her eggs sacs. We moved the cage outside onto the porch near her old web lication this afternoon. Then I put a cricket into the corner web a few inches from her. She hasn't moved toward it in an hour. Generally she grabs insects we put in her web within seconds. I am afraid she made a little web to die in? But why? She has stayed warm enough and was fed or caught insects every day until yesterday. I read that these spiders would live longer than a season if kept out of the frost. Me and my boys are attached to her.....Any advice or information would be appreciated. Thanks. Anna

You might want to transfer this question to the "Insect and Spider" section. We usually deal with plant questions.

Sorry! I hope your spider is okay.

Are these what we on the left coast call "Golden Orbs"?

Writing spiders die by first frost after leaving egg sacs behind. You do not remember the story of Charlotte's Web? Umm, Agriope aurantia. If you are lucky when the little ones hatch, a few will be left behind - OUTSIDE- in perhaps a shed or barn..
