I'm not a bug expert but I think I IDed this correctly. I'd be happy to be corrected if not. :)

Well, you have the correct family (Carabidae), but it's not a caterpillar hunter. Looks to me like something in the subfamily Harpalinae, but I would need to study it further (on vacation right now, not much time for research)...
