A friend found this guy in his garage in Chilliwack BC. He said it was about the size of a two dollar coin, can anybody identify this?
Does anyone know what species of spider this is?
The image appears a bit overexposed, and taking that into consideration, I suspect that this could be a hacklemesh weaver (family Amaurobiidae), such as Callobius severus - see http://www.boldsystems.org/pics/SPRMA/sk50%2B1279655172.jpg for an example.
I apologize for the poor quality images, it is all that this person had.
After reading your response, I did a google search on the hacklemesh weaver and another photo came up that I though it could be as well. What about a crevice weaver?
Thank you for your help, I was coming up empty handed with my searches.
As far as I know, crevice weavers (family Filistatidae) do not occur north of California...
