Good morning we have this black bug hundreds of them they turn into a ball when touched. Here is a picture could you please tell us what they are and if we need to do anything to get rid of them as they are filling up our swimming pool. Thank you.
Black bug turns in ball
This is a terrestrial crustacean in the order Isopoda. Commonly known as pillbugs, sowbugs, roly polys, etc. they are harmless scavengers on decomposing organic matter. Other than keeping the area surrounding your pool as dry and clear of any material that might give them shelter, there's not much you can do as they are so common and abundant.
