I have trouble with young trees sometimes. What do I have here?
Roadside Young Tree
You should at least make an educated guess based on what you can see.
Simple elliptic leaves of substantial (thick) somewhat glossed nature, alternate arrangement along stem/branch, kind of colorful obvious bud, smooth gray young branches...
Nyssa sylvatica it is - Blackgum.
Never would have thought of that, actually. There are large Black Tupelos a few miles away, but they deep in a woodland environment. This was in the middle of a farm. I guess they can grow most places.
