Can you Identify This Spider for me?

Hi there,

Out gardening today and I spotted a shadow on my fence which had an unusual shape. When I got closer I spotted this spider, I have never ever seen anything like it before in the garden. I have searched descriptions of it but to no avail, so im wondering could anyone here be able to help me identify it? I have two photos shown but some parts may be hard to make out. the spiders back was very large (atleast compared to spiders i have seen) it had 3 or 4 white dots on its back, and what is harder to make out on the photo is it had on each leg several what looked to be red lines on its legs! its back was the most striking part and almost looked like a peanut! It is probably a very common spider, but way out of my knowledge base so I apologise if my question seems silly!

Thankyou For anyone who can help!

One very helpful thing to give when asking for identification is a general location. If anything, it can help rule out certain species. :)

This may be a Cross Spider Araneus diadematus. I read somewhere it is native to Europe, but has made its way to North America. Regardless, it is a very beneficial insect to have around.
