There were a set of these trees along the roadside. The leaves were tough and rubbery with dark tops and much lighter bottoms. It looked really cool shimmering in the breeze. Branches were alternate (if my lousy pics don't show it).
I feel like I've seen this before but I can't place it...

One of the balsam poplars, perhaps Populus maximowiczii (Japanese Balsam Poplar).
