found in san diego. i'm not sure if it is a pest or if so what they could be eating.
identify this black beetle
Image not clear enough to be absolutely certain, but if its antennae are not clubbed on their ends, it most likely is a ground beetle, an active predator on other small arthropods.
From these images, I believe that the beetle most likely is a darkling beetle (family Tenebrionidae), possibly a Neobaphion sp. - see http://www.boldsystems.org/pics/_w300/CNCCD/CNC_COLEO_00126816%2B1309269280.JPG for an example. This is not a pest.
