What kind of insect/bug

My mom went to hang some clothes out on the line today and she found a clothes pin that had some kind of bug on it, she asked me if i knew what they were because i was in boyscouts and had earned my insect badge. Unfortunately i could not identify what it is. The seem to kinda look like there are linked like a chain on the corner of the close pin. They are about the size of a small rolly polly when they are curled up but not as puffy. Just curious as to what they are?
