2 years ago, our mature avocado tree yielded a very good harvest. This year has been abysmal. Part of the problem may be lack of watering (we didn't notice that the sprinklers near the tree weren't working for several weeks). Now I'm afraid my gardener may be over-compensating. He fertilized the tree...and we're giving it plenty of water. But the leaves are not looking as healthy as they were last month. What do these spots mean and is the tree looking ok? Or is it typical for the leaves to start changing this way? Please let me know what you think.

Is My Avocado Tree Healthy
Hi Tony,
Your tree does look water stressed but tell your gardener not to over do it. Avocados don't produce the same crop year after year. A lot of it has to do with how many bees and how much rain while the bees were supposed to be doing their thing. And some of it has to do with the health of the tree. Not getting any water while the flowers and fruit were forming will have an impact.
An avocado will not do well in a lawn without extra water but you were doing well by it until your sprinklers broke. Tell the gardener to go back to the original watering schedule. And hope for a better crop nest year.
My California home has a huge Mexicola Grande Avocado. Every year is a surprise. Two years ago we had a coupe hundred pounds of avocados. Last year, I could eat them fast enough to keep ahead. The good thing is that friends always welcome you if you come with a bag of avocados.
