Can you help ID this spider found in North Dakota? TIA
Spider in North Dakota
This is a male orb weaving spider in the genus Argiope - see http://www.spiders.us/species/argiope-aurantia/#more_pictures for some images. As a child, I often saw these spiders in their webs in early autumn when walking cross-country to school near Minot.

Yes. This one is a female, they're always bigger than the males when mature. You also can see why these sometimes are called 'writing spiders'...
I was impressed by its size. Now I learned something new about them. Thank you.
