Please excuse the harsh highlights on the spider - I don't have the proper lighting for this kind of thing. The spiders body is roughly 1/4" in length.

Can't help you with the spider, but you have a nice photo of a Red-banded Hairstreak, Calycopis cecrops.

The spider appears to be an orb weaver in the genus Micrathena -
