i bought a little airplant...

La Crosse, WI(Zone 4a)

i was at the local walgreens today and they had these little airplants for sale- ive always wanted one so i found the best of the bunch and brought it home- it was in this little rubber thingy that you can stick it right to a window via the suction cup that was attached- i didnt care so much about that cause i was gonna give it a better home anyways- when i took it out of the little cup i was horrified to see that they had used some kind of rubbery glue on the base of it to make it stick in the pot! should i be concerned that the bottom has no roots? its like it had been cut at the base of the plant- i carefully peeled off the chunk of glue that was stuck to the bottom of it but a bit of the bottom of the plant came with it- if anybody out there has an airplant and can tell me if keeping it is a waste of time id really appreciate it- or what to do about it from this point- the plant itself is very healthy looking but that could very well change soon now that i peeled the glue off of it... thank you all ahead of time for all your input =)

If your Tillandsia wasn't pulled completely apart, it should be okay. In their natural habitat, they only use any roots they develop to anchor to something. They obtain nutrients through the leaves.

A late response.......yes, remove the glue.....get on the Internet to identify the species of your Tillandsia, it's nice to know but not essential. I have a Recurvata, some ionanthas, a bulbosa and a nice aeranthos. They are happy plants, I have them all perched on two Norfolk Island Pines(also happy).

Remember, like all plants they need some care. I provide bright but not direct sunlight(they are photosynthetic). I mist them daily and soak them once a week for 30 minutes. In summer, I soak them in a dilute solution of fertilizer every two weeks. They are all growing but slowly. They are amazing!
