Hey everyone, just saw this caterpillar recently on one of my Lemon Queen sunflower stalks and was curious as to what kind of butterfly it may be when it's done. My wife insists it's a monarch, but looking online, the closest thing I could find that resembles this was a Black Swallow Tail caterpillar, but I'm not 100% certain. Hope someone could shed some positive light on this mystery.

This is indeed most likely a black swallowtail larva. The larvae of Papilio zelicaon, the anise swallowtail, are nearly identical in appearance, but that species' range does not extend as far east as Ohio.
