These guys come out at dusk to enjoy my Four O' Clocks.
They aren't the correct color for local Hummingbird Moths...any ideas?
I'm in North Central Louisiana, Red River Parish.
Thanks for any insight, glad I found this Forum!
CLOSED: Hummingbird Moth or not?
I believe it is a Five-Spotted Hawkmoth.
Looks like Manduca sexta to me - http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/manduca-sexta
My bad. Thought the line of yellow spots on the side of the abdomen was a distinguishing characteristic of Manduca quinquemaculatus, now I see that M. sexta has them too. Thanks for the correction.
Thank you both, very much!
I'll mark the thread as Solved.
