Yellow Aloe Vera

Baltimore, MD

Hey gardeners,

I've had my aloe plant for a couple of years (and mine was a piece taken from another one that's older than I am), but it seems to be suffering. It's leaves are turning light brown/yellow. It's in a westward facing window, and gets a fair bit of sun. It seems like the yellow gets worse every time I water it, but I've only been watering it about once a month. It's dry right now. What should I do? I repotted it, but that didn't help. Is it missing some nutrient? Or maybe it needs more sun?

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

Maybe less sun and more water. The healthiest Aloe I ever had fell off the porch and landed in the garden below. It was in the shade and got watered every other day. It eventually rooted down there.

I'm not saying water every day or put it in the shade but water more than once a month and protect it from that hot western sun. A south or east exposure would be better.

A photo would help us see if that is really the problem.

More water. Check the soil to see when it is going dry, but not totally bone dry, and make that your watering interval. You can use your finger or a moisture meter, or a chopstick, whatever you like. The actual time required will depend on the size of the pot, the mix, the material the pot is made of, and its exposure to sun and air flow. Maybe once a week in the sun in a nice well draining mix.

The west facing window is fine unless there's no air flow and it gets hot by the window. I keep my indoor succulents by a SW facing window that gets hours of sun every day, no harm done because it stays cool.
