While watering my animals, one cow and three goats, I noticed this huge fly on my cow. It eventually flew over to one of the cedar posts and landed and I took some pictures. It doesn't give much for size reference but it was about 1 inch long. Sorry the pictures aren't better, I took them with my phone.
What type of fly is this?
It's a horse fly in the genus Tabanus. This genus includes our largest species of horse fly, Tabanus americanus.
