I tried finding this "fellow" in my insect guide, but the closest thing was a 6-spotted Tiger Beetle. But as you can see, there's no spots. Any ideas? I remember looking at this, but cannot remember the size.

Metallic Green Beetle
Looks like a Six-spotted Tiger Beetle, Cicindela sexgutata without spots. There is a lot of variation as to the markings, but I may well be corrected shortly.
This most likely is an immaculate six-spotted tiger beetle. There are other species with a similar appearance, such as the Laurentian tiger beetle (Cicindela denikei), but they have not been reported from Iowa...
