I was given 3 iris rhizomes last week, that had no leaf fans on them. I planted them just under the surface. I googled 'propagating iris', and the instructions were to always include part of the leaf fan when dividing iris. Will the iris rhizomes that I planted with no leaf-fans still grow ? Thanks for any help that you can provide.
Planting Iris Rhizomes
Chances are, the gifter gave you the parts that the Iris had grown from, not the part that it was growing to.
Iris only grow in one direction and will only sprout from the growing points where the leaf fans are or where you can see a bud developing.
Sorry!
But the growing point can be very small if all the outer leaves are removed. Post a photo if you need more clarification.
