Peony leaves look unhealthy

I was given a different variety of peonies which have different-looking leaves than the other ones in my garden. Are these plants diseased or are the leaves supposed to look like this?

I'm wondering if you currenty have tree peonies, or perhaps the single petal varieties that more of a fern leaf? I suspect you're asking why the leaves are curled up? Is that correct?

Yes, I'm wondering why they are curled; I honestly can't remember if they were like that when they were given to me a month ago. They are getting enough water and plenty of sun. They had buds on them when I put them in the ground but they shrivelled up a week later. I know this is expected after moving peonies and probably won't get blooms for another several years.

The fact that I probably noticed this was because this happened to a Peony that I bought as a bare root back in April, and potted up. It was growing very nicely. After I planted it out (after Memorial day, our last frost date), I noticed the leaves were curling and had the same questions...was it getting enough water? Sun??? I think I posted a photo and no one knew/answered, Maybe someone will see this post and have some info.

Valal, Did your leaves eventually un-curl? As you both experienced this after you transplanted them, maybe its transplant shock. A good dose of Fish Emulsion and a lot of water and time may help.

Thank you DaisyPlantLady, I will pick up some Fish Emulsion. Peonies must be more temperamental than other plants in terms of transplant shock. I've also heard that they are picky as to how deep the bulb is planted. Will try that and keep everyone posted.

I'm also wondering if bonemeal would do the trick just as well as fish emulsion? I have plenty of bonemeal in the shed.

I was going for the Vitamin B in Fish Emulsion. Vitamin B is used to treat shock (and hangovers). Bone meal has a lot of calcium but I'm not sure of what other vitamins.

hey, i guess one reason is that you planted the peony not the right time, too late? they need time to adapt the new environment. try some foliage application. that would be helpful.
