My beautiful prized crown of thorns began dying since December when I moved into a new apartment (I moved only 20 mins north of my old apartment in Northern CA). The plant keeps on producing new leaves that turn yellow before full size and then falls off. I am watering it once a week like I used to. Tried the front porch then back porch to see if lighting is better for the plant. The plant has not died…it still produces new leaves continuously…but the leave keep on turning yellow and falling off. I have had this plant for several years and it used to produce large red flowers the entire year. Please help if you have any suggestions>
my dying crown of thorns : (
Crown of thorns automatically drops leaves when too hot and dry or too cold to conserve growth. Mine used to drop leaves in the winter and then the branches grew again. In Spring the leaves grow back and blooming commences.
Its not rotting and doesn't appear to be drying up. Maybe its motion sickness. All that moving. Put it in the spot you think will make it most happy and leave it for a month or so. I would also think about the change in humidity and sunlight between your old home and new. 20 minutes in your area could mean the difference between balmy sea breezes and hot and dry.
