Questions about sarracenia

Baltimore, MD

Hey!

I just got this pitcher plant as a gift, and I haven't been able to find consistent information in general searches. A couple of questions:

1) Do I put water in the pitchers?
2) I found a site saying to feed Venus flytraps bloodworms (https://www.flytrapcare.com/feed-a-venus-fly-trap). Should I feed a pitcher, or are they happy enough without food?
3) What pot should I put this plant in? Do their roots need a lot of room, or do they like to be crowded? Should I go for narrow and deep or wide and shallow?
4) I read on one site that 1:1:1 peat/perlite/sand is best, and somewhere else that just 1:1 peat/perlite is good. Which mix should I use?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Don't rush to change the potting.

I would think you can trust this site

I grow mine in half peat (find peat without added nutrients) and half perlite. But, the potting medium is more to keep the plant from falling on its head. They aren't getting any nutrients from the medium. Peat is what they naturally grow in and the perlite keeps the peat from packing into a hard lump.

Put the pot into a saucer of water and don't let it go dry - these are bog plants. Don't fill the pitchers with water; you will drown them. You can put the pot into a deeper container of water but don't let the water cover the crown of the plant.

Don't feed any carnivorous plants - no bugs and no fertilizer. If they don't catch their own bugs, they will photosynthesize what they need.

Full sun and ample water - that's all they ask.
