Hi, I'm thinking of planting viola odorata in a flower bed already containing a peony and a hydrangea. I've read that violas are invasive. Would my hydrangea and peony risk being choked to death?
Thanks!
PS. The flower bed is surrounded by brick paving, so unless the viola can jump 4 feet, the rest of the garden should be ok.
Viola odorata: friend or foe?
Viola odorata isn't capable of choking to death peonies or shrubs. A spready plant can often provide a nice groundcover under taller plants.
I agree, it should stay within that. Remember not the let your peony roots get buried or it may keep them too warm over winter and you can sacrifice bloom.
