Hi can anyone identify this spider for me? My garden is infested with them! I'm not scared of them and don't want rid of them if they are doing some good, it's just that i'm interested in them. The children are scared of them because there is so many but maybe if I knew a bit more about them i'd be able to explain things to the kids a bit better. First 2 pics show the spider 3rd pic is where they live. Mostly in the lawn and in the pebbles.
These appear to be wolf spiders (family Lycosidae); females carry their egg sacs attached to the rear of their abdomen. Our garden has tons of them too!
