I was riding down the highway in SE MA looking at the trees and wondered what type of sumac I kept seeing. The only one I really know is Staghorn, but what I see around here are huge sumac trees as big as a maple or even larger. Staghorn is supposed to be around 20 feet tall at most (according to wikipedia). Any candidates for a different type of species that are really common by roadsides up here?
I'll try to get a pic of one if I can but in the meantime I thought I'd ask.
Sumac
You may be misdirecting your admiration at Ailanthus altissima...
that was my thought too.
Ailanthus altissima has a nasty habit of getting around.
Edited to add this ID video...

Forgot I posted this!
I think you guys may be right about the Tree of heaven, and that ID video was VERY helpful. I can't wait to test my new knowledge out!
Thanks (a little later than I usually respond)
Better late than never...
I somehow got a small potted plant of the species in question and have been trying to debunk VV's identification so I can keep it.
It's not looking good for my sorry team.
