Been all over looking to figure this out and I am stumped. Richmond, VA. area.
CLOSED: Moth? Butterfly? Other?
No scales, thus not a butterfly or moth,
Two pairs of wings, thus not a true fly.
Looks a lot like a dobsonfly (not a true fly), but missing the pinchers, and has yellow spots on the thorax. Have to wait for an expert, but guessing it is a relative of a dobsonfly.
The wings look very neuroptera-like, but the head (at least that which I can see) doesn't. Can you provide views of its underside as well as head-on from the front?
Sorry, it' did not hang around .
I am very amateur but could it be a fish fly?
Think you may have it Laurel. Compare image: http://www.pbase.com/markb249/image/127177576
Well if I do it's thanks to you experts.
I think I have to agree, thanks!
