Hello All,
I noticed the safer moth traps finally have some sctivity. Below are the pics. Are these any type of me moth? That's my biggest concern.
Please let me know if these are not clear and I'll take more pictures.
Thank you all again!
Again more moths
It should say meal moth, not me moth.
Look like Indianmeal moths, Plodia interpunctella...
We don't have much left in the house that is a grain, I'm not sure where they are coming from or how to get rid of them.
Do meal moths come from outside like normal moths or are they normally brought in with a food item?
The caterpillars of meal moths will infest many items other than those made of or containing grains, including dried fruit, nuts, candy containing nuts, etc. And they usually come in on infested food items, sometimes in the egg stage which is very difficult to detect.
We get these meal moths in bird seed and peanuts on occasion. I just read, dog food is another thing they will eat.
I don't throw out the bird food, since birds eat bugs anyway (and it's not cheap), but put the containers into the deep freeze to kill them off if I have space. BugGuide says they are native to South America, so 0 degrees is likely to do them in.
If it was human food, I'd pitch it. You may have to do a thorough cleaning of your pantry/cabinets to find the source. Also, get your foods into tightly closed containers. It's a pain, but worth it. I hope you get to the bottom of this.
The pantry is pretty much empty now. I'm even throwing away the bag of jolly ranchers. I've thrown away unopened boxes of cereal, everything. I'm so disgusted I'm just tossing everything. Anything I want to save is going into the spare fridge go hope they die at around 33 degrees.
I am not sure how long I have to keep this up, but I'm just going to put everything into the fridge now that we buy. We already did a pantry cleaning when I first we had them and posted other pictures so hopefully this will 100% get rid of them.
