Is this a roach?

Boyfriend doesn't think it is. But I do. We've never seen any in our house in 5+ years but the cat found this today on the floor in the kitchen. It was still daylight outside. I know roaches are nocturnal but this looks like a roach to me..... It was fast but I never saw it try to fly to get away from her. I killed it with the fly swatter. I didn't want the cat to eat it. I didn't get a picture of the belly or recall what it looked like but I can take one, if needed.

Yup, it's a roach - might be a wood cockroach (Parcoblatta sp.) - they often enter buildings, but usually do not become pests there...

So I shouldn't freak out quite yet? I thought about buying some Diatomaceous Earth and sprinkling it around in the kitchen whenever it arrives. DE is safe for use around cats. Not sure what else I could use, just in case they do become pests.

If it is a wood roach, it's a male (females are wingless and look like this: http://bobklips.com/bobs_website/Parcoblatta-pennsylvanica.jpg). Unless you start seeing numbers of these, you could get by just by vacuuming up the occasional drop-in 'visitor'...
