I have killed a few of these cockroaches in my house over the past few weeks and I want to find the best way to get rid of them but I don't know what kind of roaches they are. Can someone help me identify this bug? It is dead in this picture and I am sorry that it is a bit blurry. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Edit: I would like to add that I've seen this bug at night time and I've seen them in my bathroom, bathroom/laundry room and my kitchen.

Can someone help me identify this cockroach?
Hard to be certain from this image. If it is fairly large (1.5" or more), it probably is in the genus Periplaneta - see http://www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.asp?identification=American-Cockroach for an example. If it is smaller than that, it could be a wood cockroach in the genus Parcoblatta - see https://www.flickr.com/photos/vilseskogen/14521382080/ for an example.
I suggest contacting your regional office of New Jersey's Cooperative Extension Service for advice on control - see http://njaes.rutgers.edu/pubs/publication.asp?pid=FS018
They aren't extremely big. I suppose it is possible they are 1.5 inches. Bigger than a cricket for sure. I've been doing a bit of research on cockroaches and thought it could be either an American or perhaps German cockroach? It looks like it could possibly be the wood cockroach but I read that they aren't afraid of light and usually come from piles of firewood. I don't have anything like that in my house. No fireplace and no wood and these bug seem to only come out at night and every time I've seen one, it was when I walked into a dark room. I hope this might help. I'm praying it isn't German cockroaches because I've read they are extremely hard to get rid of.
Thank you for the response, any other additional information would be greatly appreciated as I've been trying to identify this bug for over a month now. I'm extremely scared of these bugs and want to get rid of them ASAP. I've tried boric acid balls (homemade with flour and syrup) and I've also purchased Demon WP from eBay and plan to spray the inside of my house as well as the around the outside foundation.
Sorry for the lengthy post and again, any little bit of information would be so helpful.
Thank you,
Jenn.
Again, I think that your best source for advice would be your nearest Cooperative Extension Service office...
OK.
