I have been removing kudzu and Virginia creeper vines from under a very old oak tree. I tear down any vines growing up the tree ASAP. So far as I can tell the Virginia creeper vine appears reddish brown and the kudzu is dark brown. I'm afraid the tree may suffer from these vines, but not sure. I don't want to hurt the tree; it's over 100 years old. Please give me any information that might help.
Under ground vines
Not sure about Virginia creeper but here in Ga we have kudzu and lots of it!It is a major pest and will take over and kill trees, plus it is a fast grower. As for removing it,how big are the vines? Are they all over the tree?Oh,yes your tree will suffer from kudzu, kudzu can (and will if it gets the chance)strangle your tree.
