I saw this bug on the leaf of a calla lily. It was so strange I just had to take a pic. It reminded me of a turtle on a lily pad, but when I got closer it flew away.
Strange bug, would love to know what it is.
This is a clavate tortoise beetle, Plagiometriona clavata. It reportedly prefers to feed on plants in the tomato family - http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/orn/beetles/Plagiometriona_clavata.htm
