This monster captured my attention yesterday while working in Minneapolis. It sits on an empty city lot, flanked by two older homes on either side in this well manicured neighborhood. It has a spread of roughly 90', casually drifting well into both of its immediate neighbors. It got a bit lucky that the neighbors were content to let this oak grow out. The Twin Cities are filled with some beautiful oaks, especially Bur.

Quercus macrocarpa are hard to beat for aged elegance and sense of permanence.

I can't think of a tree with more interesting or beautiful branching than Bur Oak. I've got a small grove of them growing here, but they look nothing like the one in this picture.
