Only this single specimen going for a stroll. What will it be?
CLOSED: Caterpiller On Pear Tree.
This caterpillar is in the family Notodontidae (prominents) and the genus Heterocampa. Caterpillars in this genus exhibit highly variable color patterns, and can be difficult to identify in the field. That aside, i believe that this most likely is Heterocampa umbrata, known as the white-blotched heterocampa, see http://www.pbase.com/image/115013787 for an example. The adult moth looks like this: http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=7990
Thanks for the speedy response. I am currently in the NE corner of GA which looks like a prominent range. I have seen moths that resemble the adults in your link.
