FIRST FLOWERS MID MAY 2015

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

I have Tradescantia 'Bilberry Ice' that is described as "icy blue". I think it's lighter blue than Pat's favorite, but I'll get a photo tomorrow for comparison purposes.

I also have 'Purple Profusion' if anyone ever wants any.

Jill--

Would you have a picture of the Dianthus that were in Joyanna's little seed packets?
(NOT the 2 pellets one) . All you wrote was--"Pink shades".

I seeded them--and they all came up--but now that they are ready to plant
(but I have not yet) the foliage is sort of curly/wavy and not like regular Dianthus.

Is this a different cultivar? I would like to see what tit looks like b/f I plant it.

Thanks--G.

Trandicanthia "Concord Grape'

Bloom...Bright one is back lit by sun, bottom ones more normal color.

second pic gives some idea (I hope) of how blue the foliage is on this one.

I must say that I just love Monarda Bradburiana. It's just so great. Mine is starting to come online now; I'll probably post some pics in a few days when it becomes more full. I'm excited for David's yellow foxglove to bloom in our garden. Nice pics everyone, keep 'em coming!

Gita, if memory serves, they are "cheddar pinks," and that IS the cultivar name: Dianthus gratianopolitanus 'Rose Shades'. I thought I had the species on the label... I'm not sure there's any such thing as "regular" dianthus; I see carnations, cheddar pinks, china pinks, alpine species, varous hybrids, and sweet william all just labeled "dianthus" sometimes.

She picked that variety because roses are her favorite flower. I believe they are a mix of rose-pink colors, mostly with darker eyezone rings. :-)

Yellow iris in the "bog" at the Maryland Zoo. Did you know that the duckweed around it is the smallest flowering plant in the world?

TB Iris 'Can Can Red', at the back of the garden where I clearly need to weed LOL. The white one is either 'Immortality' or 'Silver Dividends'.

Siberians and others are popping open now. :-) I think the bicolor blue one is 'Flutter By Butterfly' and the other is 'Plum Frolic'.
