Red doors are pretty.

My door is dark gold, to accent beige house and dark green shutters and trim. The trim and door matches the upper and undersides of the Magnolia leaves nearby, lol.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I LOVE red doors.

Hehehe, never thought of the gray punchline.

Aspenhill. Sooooooo glad you guys got the stack finished. Looking forward with you to the water level rising.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I'm sure you (Terri and Mike and family) will be so happy to look at a pond again instead of a pit!

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Aspen, very glad you got the stack repaired, now, as the song goes, "Jesus bring the rain!" :)

Greys are a hard thing to choose (aside from the fact that there are 50 to choose from, LOL); too blue, too dark, too light. We used to have dove grey carpeting before we got the hardwood flooring - UGH, what a nightmare.

Gita, I love that choice of door. Jeff, is that about the shade you two are aiming for? Look forward to seeing pics of how lovely it is after its makeover. And Aspen, I am also looking forward to seeing the pics of your pond. :)

It has been confirmed that the driveway WILL be getting resealed today.. need to get dressed and get those trucks moved! < =0

WHEW!! What a job!
It's so great that you have family so close that works and plays together. Nothing like bonding over a big job!

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Wow, it takes a village! How wonderful to have such great friends and family. It reminds me of the villagers getting together for Amish barn raising. :)

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

WOW and Pheewww! HURRAY for that crew, what a job!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

One of the things that I've always loved about living in a rural area is how much everyone always helps each other out. It is always a lot of work, but I think it is a lot of fun too.

Even with little to no rain, the pond level has risen about 3 or 4 feet in a week. Won't be long before it is back to normal.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

YAY!!! Bring on the ducks! =)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

WHOOHOO!!! Nice job, aspen!

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Nice work! I hope it keeps!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Aspen, What a great crew you have there. Looks like a lot of hard messy work got done. Does Mike have any idea why this happened this year and did he make any changes to hopefully keep it from happening again?

Jan, Looks like things are moving along really well for you.

So this isn't my project but I thought some of you might be interested in this. My daughter Julie's SO made this for her. He put a lot of work into it, she told him how much she just loved the set and was hoping he would make a 3rd seating unit. Must have been a lot of work because he told her that wasn't happening. LOL
There are 2 adjustable seating units that hold 2 people each, a coffee table with a removable top that turns into a drink cooler and a small shelf unit. He didn't have any directions just worked it out on his own.
Pallet Furniture.

Holly, they look great!!!!!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Jan, looks like you are making great progress. Out of all the home improvement type jobs, I hate drywall the most. Kudos to you and Jeff for taking it on!

Holly, the pond was built in 2001 and the stack was a galvanized pipe that was welded together. I think the part where it was welded started to corrode and/or weaken and then the shifting thick ice from this winter was too much for it and it broke. After months of discussion - after all he and his buddies had most of the winter to talk about it at the local bar lol - they decided to just go with the original design. There is a new kind of coating that is supposed to hold up better on the pipe, and the band design that puts the two pieces together is different - instead of welding, it is held together by steel bands that are tightened down. The original design and material held up for 14 years. Hopefully, this will be a permanent fix, but we shall see...

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

thanks for the info Aspen, I was wondering about those discussions. I was sure that it was a big topic this winter and wondered what they came up with

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Jan, it looks like you're almost finished!

Very impressive pallet furniture.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

SSG, looks can be deceiving. Hehehehe.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

wow Jan! going to be so nice! looking forward to more pictures further.

gosh, Holly, those are some of the best pallet furniture projects I've seen.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

One end of the patio has been deteriorating over the last few years. Some of the RR ties were deteriorating and I don't think that it helped much that a GH was using it as an entrance to his burrow. It was built about 30 years ago so I guess you can't complain much.
While I was out today Ric started the demo and rebuilding. What a great job he is doing.

I'm sure it's going to be great!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Great job there Jan, after the time you've been there , you should know where you want outlets, fans, lights, and so on. It will be like a new custom build.
I also find it interesting you're the only innocent in the bunch, everyone else jumped right on the 50 shades, I'm not sure what that means. LOL

Teri, great news about the pond, using the scaffolding was genius. I wondered how the heck they were going to do that.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I just finished trying to pour a bit of a footer under one of the existing patio walls. xing my fingers on a good outcome. The original footers were just crushed stone.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Jan, that progress is REALLY coming along wonderfully, WooHoo!!!

Ric, crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes that it all comes out right... as if there's any doubt, Pffttt! < =D

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

I haven't read this thread for awhile; I'm glad you all had fun with my "shades of gray" set-up : )

Aspen, kudos to all for finishing the stack and for having fun while they did it (including the beer-fueled planning sessions)!

Holly, that young man has talent! I especially like that coffee table, from the "Seedway" engraving to the hidden drink cooler.

Jan, it looks like you're almost ready to paint! Do you find the right gray yet?
I used Glidden "Silvery Moonlight" in my upstairs bathroom. It looks like pale green in this link, but it looks gray against the blue tiles. http://www.glidden.com/Color/Paint-Colors/Greys-Charcoals/50BG_63-014

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the suggestion, muddy. It's coming along.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Took the day off, tired and sore. I'm not used to playing with railroad ties. Jamie did stop by and finish welding my broad fork. I hope to finish the patio wall tomorrow, work on the garden, and begin mowing.

Well my wall is done, on my part. Holly needs to plant it and will then take a couple of pics to post.

Wow, great work, Ric! We have such handy men and women here. :)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

wow he works fast. The trough with clay pots in water is very interesting.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

That is one of our old pig troughs.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

That's the problem with recycled materials. The ties I removed have only been in place for 35 years.
Before that they were in a railroad switch built in the 1940's. Gee, they aren't even 100 years old. What ever happened to quality materials. LOL
One of the ties I used to do the repair is older than that though, it has rounded sides and hand hewn surfaces. I'd date it to the late 20's or 30's when many were being cut from the dead chestnut forest.
Handling these is becoming more difficult for me so I have to figure out ways to work smarter, ways to slide and shift things rather than actually lift them.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Ric---
That SOOO improves your entrance to the house! Now it has a solid,
together look. Like--THIS is how you get to our door.....and--no one will fall off the edge!

I have always loved your whole entrance thing....That Juniper is sooo beautiful--
the way it hugs the patio. So green and uniform!
Ever wonder what you would find under there IF you had to remove it????
Maybe some RR ties from the 1800? A long-lost cousin?

You are SO handy to have around. You can do anything--pain is the byproduct.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

LOL Gita, "a long-lost cousin"!! Hahahahahaaahaaaa!!!!

You're right though, Holly, it does look GREAT!! Such a beautiful and inviting entrance. BRAVO to both of you for that wonderful work! =)
